Web Based Research and Medical Communications Firm, MedPanel, Joins the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council

CAMBRIDGE, MA -- JUNE 1 2002 -- MedPanel is pleased to announce they have joined the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council. Janice Bourque, President of MBC, welcomed the newest member;"MedPanel's platform in utilizing the Internet to connect thought leaders with the biotech industry is both innovative and vital to build and maintain a business in our complex arena." The addition of MedPanel to MBC reinforces the council's goal of creating an infrastructure and support system that serves the needs of the local biotechnology industry.

MedPanel offers a unique service which brings focus groups and advisory board activities online in a threaded discussion format. In addition to being cost effective, MedPanel provides many advantages when compared to traditional market research. Utilizing the Internet eliminates the need for travel and allows thought leaders and other hard to reach medical experts to respond according to their own schedules, engaging a panel of experts that otherwise might not be able to participate.

Projects are finished with speed and accuracy, providing actionable intelligence. A standard project ,including a full analysis, is completed within 21 days of project initiation. Customers have praised the effectiveness of MedPanel methodology, "The speed and efficiency of MedPanel's method is a real advantage. In three weeks, sometimes less, they were able to help us complete a thorough qualitative study conducted and reported with expert analysis. MedPanel helped us in front of the FDA with their unbiased research methodology." said Robert Bratzler, CEO of Coley Pharmaceuticals.

Their proprietary database contains more than 1800 thought-leaders from internationally-acclaimed medical centers around the world and across all the major therapeutic fields. MedPanel's database also includes community-based physicians as well as nurses, HMO formulary experts, pharmacists and other medical experts.

In just a few years, MedPanel has achieved significant revenue growth, profitability and a lengthy client list that includes industry leaders such as Vertex, Millennium, AVANT Immunotherapeutics, and GelTex. "We attribute our strong growth to a staff comprised of clinical experts including MD's, RN's, Ph. D's and MPH. We pride ourselves on customization with a high caliber of customer service. This is evident from our solid client retention and the number of new projects they ask us to conduct," says Febbo. In 2001, MedPanel's first profitable year, there was a 230% growth in revenue and 30 new clients were added to their customer base.

A. J. Fedor, Associate Director at GelTex Pharmaceuticals reports, "after our first project with MedPanel, it was clear how powerful this method is in bringing together high level, difficult to reach experts quickly and cost effectively. The ability to watch the discussion as it progresses over the two weeks allows us to make sure that we get all our questions answered thoughtfully and completely."

MedPanel is anxious to become a major contributor to the MBC and its affiliates. They currently serve on the MBC Marketing Committee and plan to co-host an educational workshop in the fall with the IT Committee.

Founded in 1999, MedPanel is a privately held company headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
